Jessica Jennebach Varela employs alternative photographic techniques—including infrared photography, underwater imagery, and astrophotography—always integrating them with the practice of light painting. Light is her primary medium.
Deeply influenced by music and sound, she explores the synesthetic interplay between light and sonic expression, creating images that resonate with both visual and auditory rhythms.
Influenced by her background in cinematography and her admiration for the theatrical works of Robert Wilson, Jessica Jennebach Varela constructs meticulously staged compositions that blur the boundaries between still image and stage design. Her visual narratives are often informed by the natural world—filtered through the lens of her upbringing in one of Spain’s most contaminated yet paradoxically beautiful regions—resulting in a tension between artifice and environment, beauty and decay.
The images in this Photobook are transaquatypes, photographs that were printed by a printer with modified inks, then painted meticulously with alcohol and various chemicals.
The print 'Die Russische Botschaft'' was made into silk scarfs, as well as a bamboo on a handmade wood frame (112 x 70cm ).
